Paddle Care

At Maverix Pickleball, we understand that different players have varying approaches to caring for their paddles. Some prioritize meticulous maintenance to keep their paddles in pristine condition, while others embrace the dings and marks that naturally occur on a well-loved and frequently played paddle. Then there are those, including ourselves, who may not give their paddles the attention they deserve. Whatever your care style may be, we've compiled a few easy habits to help you keep your Maverix Pickleball paddle looking new and performing at its best.

1. Break in Period

Do pickleball paddles need a break-in period? Absolutely — BE PATIENT! Like a baseball glove, pickleball paddles have a break-in period! The Havik 2 is a carbon fiber, thermoformed paddle, which is stiffer than a traditional paddle and will need anywhere from 5 – 15 games of play depending on how hard you hit. During our prototyping and testing we found that on average, a player's first full day of play was needed to really break the paddle in. As the paddle breaks in you will notice the control, spin and power of this paddle truly come alive!

The same applies to our Havik 15 Pro — its 15mm Kevlar-carbon fiber construction may feel stiff at first, but once broken in, the pop and power are unmatched. Give your paddle time, and it will reward you on the court.

2. Cleaning

Regularly clean your paddle to maintain its appearance. You can use a glass cleaner and a lint-free cloth to clean the face and edge guard. Over time, the graphics on your paddle may naturally wear due to ball contact. Embrace these signs of a well-loved and well-used paddle. Please use rubberized "cleaning paddle erasers," at your own risk as these may ruin paddle graphics.

It's not advisable to submerge your paddle in water or any other liquid, as the core can trap moisture.

3. Extreme Temperatures

Protect your paddle from extreme temperatures. If you reside in colder regions, avoid leaving your paddle in the trunk of your car or in the garage. Cold air can make objects more brittle, increasing the risk of breakage. Similarly, refrain from leaving your paddle exposed to excessive heat. Intense heat from direct sun exposure on a court can soften the paddle face.

When transporting your paddle, use the Maverix Neoprene Paddle Cover included with your paddle to shield it from temperature swings, impacts, and scratches. Browse our full paddle upgrades and accessories for lead tape, cleaners, and more.

4. Preserving the Grip

The handle of your paddle can accumulate grime from sweat and dead skin. After each play session, take a moment to wipe it off with a towel or damp cloth. This simple step helps preserve the life of your grip. Eventually, you may consider replacing the grip. Replacing the grip is a straightforward process that you can easily do at home. Depending on your grip type, you'll notice over time if it has lost its tackiness or cushion and should be replaced. The frequency of grip replacement depends on your playing habits and personal preference.

5. Handle with Care

Treat your paddle gently to prolong its lifespan. Take a moment to inspect the edge guard, as wear and tear along its surface indicate how often the paddle hits the ground. While most paddle manufacturers offer lifetime warranties for manufacturer defects, they typically do not cover user error or mishandling. Avoid landing on your paddle if you're about to fall. Paddles were not designed to support heavy weights. In moments of frustration or anger, refrain from forcefully smashing your paddle against the ground. Instead, find alternative ways to cool off that won't damage your equipment.

6. Mindful Placement

When you're not actively playing, be mindful of where you place your paddle. Please use the Maverix Neoprene Paddle Cover that comes with every paddle. If it's in your bag, ensure that keys or metal water bottles are not scraping against it, as this can cause unnecessary wear on the graphics. Avoid leaving your bag in places where other players might step on it or toss their bags on top of it accidentally. Being aware of your paddle's location can prevent unintentional damage.

7. Paddle Lifespan

On average, most paddles last between 1-5 years, depending on usage and care. Maverix Pickleball offers a 1 year warranty for manufacturer defects. However, natural wear and tear, as well as negligence, are not covered. It's important to note that paddle technology advances rapidly, rendering paddles obsolete approximately every 2-3 years.

Incorporate these suggestions into your daily pickleball routine to maintain the pristine look and feel of your Maverix Pickleball paddle. Should you encounter any issues with your paddle, please don't hesitate to contact us. We are more than happy to assist you.
